Swift is taking the next ambitious step towards a low-carbon future by committing to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Swift is taking the next ambitious step towards a low-carbon future by committing to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By signing up to this worldwide initiative, Swift is setting science-based targets, including ambitious CO2 reduction actions, across the organisation to reduce its global carbon footprint for a more sustainable future. These greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets are in line with the level of de-carbonisation required to meet the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement to limit global warming by 1.5°C.

Between 2007 and 2015, Swift reduced its carbon footprint globally by 71%, and achieved net zero by 2020 using carbon offsetting. We are now taking it to the next level to make a critical contribution to limiting the worst impacts of climate breakdown.

What are ‘science-based targets’?

Science-based targets provide a clearly-defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth.

Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deemed necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – pursuing efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 ºC above pre-industrial levels.

Taking action

Swift has a transversal Climate Action team actively working to define these ambitious targets and associated actions with an aim to further reduce our carbon footprint in the next few years. The team is looking at concrete actions such as making our buildings and datacentres more energy efficient, revising policies for sustainable commuting and business travel and further greening our events including Sibos.
